The overarching goal of the UCSC MA/C Program is to develop teachers who are change agents and social justice advocates dedicated to fostering equitable and effective schooling and life opportunities for all students.
Over the course of one calendar year, MA/C students will earn both an MA in Education and complete the requirements for a California preliminary teaching credential.

We offer credentials in the following subject areas:
- Mathematics
- Foundational Mathematics (to teach up through Algebra 2)
- Foundational Science (to teach middle school science)
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Geosciences
- English
- Social Science
- Multiple Subjects
Students in all credential areas also have the option to obtain bilingual authorization that allows them to teach in bilingual Spanish-language settings.
The UCSC MA/Credential Program prepares future teachers to:
- See students’ varying abilities, interests, and perspectives as resources for learning and teaching.
- Engage their K-12 students with challenging curriculum in meaningful ways.
- Include innovative approaches to instructional practices, lesson design, and performance assessment.
- Engage their K-12 students in the critical analysis of social issues aimed at building a just and democratic society.
