California State University Monterey Bay Teaching Credential Program

CSUMB offers two ways to earn your single subject credential in math or science: through our co-teaching pathway or an internship pathway.

  • Co-teaching is a one-year pathway that offers you the opportunity to gain experience through student teaching for the entire school year under the guidance of a cooperating teacher.

  • The Internship Program gives you the opportunity to earn your credential while you teach under the guidance of a mentor teacher. This option is best for students who already have significant experience in classrooms prior to beginning the CSUMB credential program. You can obtain your preliminary single subject credential program in 12 months or your credential and MA in Education in 24 months.

Currently, CSUMB also offers a teacher residency program in which you co-teach for the entire year and receive guidance from expert mentor teachers, university coaches, and site administrators. Resident teachers also receive a stipend for their co-teaching.

CSUMB offers single subject credentials in:

  • Mathematics
  • Biology
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Geosciences
